Table tennis: Manika Batra makes singles history
Indian table tennis ace Manika Batra won 4-2 against Thailand' Suthasini Sawettabut in the women's singles round of 16 at the Asian Games 2023. A two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Manika Batra became the first Indian singles player to make the Asian Games quarter-final. The 28-year-old paddler will take on China's Wang Yidi for a semi-final spot and an assured medal at Hangzhou.
Meanwhile, Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran lost 11-5, 11-4, 11-7 versus Fan Zhendong and Wang Chuqin of China in the men's doubles round of 16.
Manush Utpalbhai Shah and Manav Vikash Thakkar, on the other hand, won 3-2 in their pre-quarterfinal match against Singapore's Yew En Koen Pang and Izaac Quek Yong. They will go up against top seeds Woojin Jang and Jonghoon Lim in the men's doubles quarter-final.
